Bundhaya Resort Koh Lipe : Overhyped
We chose this resort because it was the only one that looked to be a median between luxury and everything else on the island (from the website). We made a reservation for a fan room as we were trying to save money. This was a big mistake. The long-house rooms do not have any air circulation in the bathrooms and there was mold all over. We tried to change rooms, but everything was booked (so we endured for a night).
The next day hiked around the island to try and find a new place but the amenities of Bundhaya kept luring us back. We ended up upgrading to a Superior Bungalow unit. It was pricy compared to what we were used to paying in Thailand, but it was our last couple nights before heading home so we bit the bullet.
While my wife enjoyed the amenities of Bundhaya, that was exactly what I disliked about it. Most people do not go to Koh Lipe for a pampered/have everything resort. It was for these reasons that we did not hang out at the resort or dine at the resort.
The two positives about this place are it is very convenient because the longboats drop you off right in front after the ferry ride. But it is not a big deal to pay 100-200 baht to have a longboat drop you off at another location on the island. The location is also very convenient for finding a restaurant on the beach in the evenings. The other positive is the breakfast buffet. We usually had a hearty breakfast that would hold us all day long until dinner.
We tried the spa but the massage was not that good. You will have much better luck if you venture down to the village and hit one of the ‘spas’ on the main walk. The beach was crowded and busy. We would always head over to Sunrise Beach (a lot more low-key).
