Varin Beach Resort Koh Lipe Reviews

Beautiful Location and Fantastic Stay
We enjoyed the fact that the beach was not crowded and we could enjoy relaxation and romance. We didn't care about the Moon parties and were happy that there was no disturbance.
There are a lot of activities in the resort and around - sea kayak, thai massage, snorkeling and diving trips, etc.
We had a fantastic time here. We didn't mind that the room is cleaned just once in 3 days - if you want a daily cleaning you can asked for it.
The resort staff was willing to any help and we felt that they really care about the guests.
Great location, clean rooms but some noise issues
Picked the Varin Beach because we wanted to be on Pattaya beach and also needed to be sure of mosquito proofing, as my husband had caught dengue earlier in the trip. Came to Lipe from Lanta on the new Tigerline service, which took ages due to a boat breakdown. Lipe has no pier so you are collected in longtails, and unfortunately due to pushing and shoving from other tourists we lost a (fortunately) empty bag - the Varin reception phoned the boat company but unsurprisingly it didn't turn up.
We took an 'aircon standard' which was clean with good bedding and bed, solid against insects and with good quiet aircon, fan and 24 hour power. Cold shower only and toilet that is flushed with a water scoo, but everything works fine. The bathroom is divided only by a wall and curtain, so you need to be good friends! This included breakfast which we thought was good - you can go back for more, they had cereal and toast as well as the local food, you need to catch it when just served as it sits around although they do have covers and throughput is fairly fast. For other meals the restaurant is indeed overpriced and indifferent, we went to 'family' down the beach which was much better. There also look some good places inland but as this is breezeless and full of mosquitos we couldn't use them.
The problem at the Varin is noise - make sure you don't get a bungalow near the back as the generator will disturb you. What isn't so easy to solve is the other guests walking past talking loudly at all hours - there are now music bars on the island which seem to turn off around 11pm, but people don't think how thin the walls are and you get disturbed. I did stop the neighbours from jabbering loudly on their balcony at midnight (they were most apologetic, don't people think?) but you also get woken at 8am when the first longtails start up!
Visit Lipe now for amazing off the beach snorkelling (before the coral gets further damaged), but for peace and quiet, the Varin is not the place.
Clean and comfy bungalows, avoid breakfast
I booked Varin because I was struggling to find cheap accommodation on Ko Lipe that would also take a website booking. We tried to contact Varin directly but the email bounced back and so we eventually booked through the Siam Visit website. We had a deluxe a/c bungalow which was nice and clean with a comfy bed. We had three of us in the room which was a tight squeeze but it would be perfect for two people. The location right on Pattaya beach is perfect but the breakfast was horrendous. All the cooked food was stone cold and undercooked and so we skipped it and went next door to the fab Cafe Lipe for muesli, lattes and smoothies. Ko Lipe is just beautiful and it is worth seeking out the amazing Flour Power Bakery on the path to sunset beach - the best cookies and brownies ever! Remember to print off a map of the island before you go to help you navigate all the paths.
Decent, central, affordable hotel on Pattaya Beach
Varin was impossible to contact via email or phone but we had luck emailing Ocean Pro Divers which is located next door to Varin. They arranged a room for us at 600 Baht/night which was very reasonable for the location. We avoided the restaurant as we'd read that it was over-priced and not very good. Like other reviewers, we enjoyed Cafe Lipe and Kafair nearby. Pooh Bakery is also delicious.
The room was similar to other bungalows on the island- no air conditioning (they have the option for a higher price) or hot water. We found ants in the room as they were attracted to our toiletries and were bitten by mosquitoes at night. I imagine that's common anywhere though. Overall, it was a fine place to stay but we moved to Mountain Resort which is a bit more private and expensive but much nicer.
