Besides the restaurant from your resort Koh Lipe has a few other options.
On Pattaya beach a few places draw in the crowds every night with a barbecue on the beach. Popular with many visitors, but it does seem a bit inconsiderate to eat big plates of seafood in the middle of a national marine park (and yes, some of the fish for sale is caught illegally in the park). The path from Pattaya beach to the village has quite a few shops, fruit stalls, and small eateries (pancakes, baguettes, etc ...) ideal for a light lunch or a quick snack. Near the school, where the path from Sunset beach connects to the village, is also a 'snack hot-spot', with noodle soups, roti's and a few shops. Here are a few restaurants that have gained a bit of a reputation over the years:
Jack's Jungle Bar
In the jungle near Sunset beach, Jack's wife Dai cooks a Penang and Mussaman curry that has become quite famous. Many of the longtermers eat here several days a week. A great spot to sample Thai Home cooking.
In the middle of the island, opposite Pooh Bar, Mama's restaurant was the first restaurant to open on Koh Lipe and is one of the few Chao Ley run places on Koh Lipe.
Has a large selection of Thai and Western favorites, but is mainly popular for it's movies showing every night at 19.00h. (located on the path from the village to Pattaya beach)
Fresh Italian pizza and pasta on Pattaya beach.
The largely westernised menu comes with Western service and (almost Western) prices. The barbeque with salad bar is popular. On some nights there is live music.
Koh Lipe has seen a steady rise in the number of bars over the last few years, however most of them have stayed low key
These are a few of the bars that have been around for a few years:
Jack's Jungle Bar
A great place to meet people in the middle of the jungle (120 meters from Sunset beach). Generous cocktails and excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere. Live Music Jam on Saturday night. Free pool table (if you have a drink).
besides a dive shop and a bamboo resort, Forra has a beautifully designed open restaurant and lounge area with amazing views. A great place for breakfast (real coffee!) and during the afternoon heat.
In de middle of the island, Pooh Bar feels more urban than any other bar on the islands, great service but pricey. Pool table, large screen (live football), draft beer and lots of cocktails.
The original Lipe hangout, where you can drink and dance on the beach all through the night to the next day, local chao-ley style! (Pattaya beach)
